Shaylise Sylvester
she/her
Studio Artist & Owner
Shaylise Sylvester has been working with clay for six years, with three years of teaching experience at community studios and the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). After moving back to Alaska and missing her clay community in California, she decided to open a studio space to foster learning, creativity, and connection. She is currently working towards applying and pursuing an MFA in ceramics at UAF.
Her current work explores cultural identity through clay and mixed media, using craft traditions as a form of research. She sees her work as part of a larger conversation about belonging, inheritance, and cultural memory.
Shaylise also enjoys skiing, a good cup of coffee, warm soup on a cold day, and spending time with her dog, Roo.
Anastasia Light
she/her
Studio Artist & Avid Birder
Anastasia’s love of ceramics grew from the same attentiveness that draws her to birding, where slowing down and noticing small details became second nature. Clay quickly felt like a natural extension of that way of seeing.
Her work is primarily functional, exploring form through faceting and altered shapes to bring out the natural texture and softness of the clay. Moving between Vermont and Alaska has shaped how she approaches making and her relationship to land and wildlife. She is interested in how clay holds the memory of each touch, much like landscapes and ecosystems carry traces of time, movement, and life.
Outside of the studio (and when not prancing about birding), Anastasia is a wildlife photographer, rock climber, professional garden weeder, and enjoys a perfectly proofed loaf of sourdough, her two cats, and sipping on a lovely cup of lavender Earl Grey tea with her partner.
