What We Offer at The Clay Well
Our Classes
We offer pottery wheel classes in small, session-based formats that meet once per week. Classes are taught in progression, beginning with Introduction, followed by Wheel I and Wheel II. Introduction is offered as 4-week sessions, while Wheel I and Wheel II runs for 6 weeks, allowing students to build skills at an appropriate pace. Students enroll at the level that matches their experience and receive focused, hands-on instruction throughout each session.
Pottery has become increasingly popular, and many classes today focus mainly on making finished pieces. At The Clay Well, our approach is different. Our classes are experience based and centered on learning how to throw on the wheel, building confidence, and understanding the process of working with clay.
Our Introduction class is designed to teach the fundamentals of wheel throwing, allowing students to focus on learning without the expectation of taking finished pots home. In Wheel I and Wheel II, we thoughtfully limit the number of pieces that are kept so students can concentrate on refining their technique rather than producing a high volume of work.
Fired clay is a permanent material. Ceramic objects can survive for thousands of years, and the materials and firing processes involved carry an environmental impact. As part of our commitment to being environmentally conscious, this philosophy guides how we teach, make, and fire work in our studio.
We believe this approach creates a more meaningful, sustainable, and rewarding learning experience for everyone.
Learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing in this hands-on, 4-week course at The Clay Well. Students will practice wedging, centering, and throwing simple clay forms through guided instruction in a supportive studio environment.
This is an experience based class. Participants will NOT take home the work they make.
Our Introduction class lets students explore clay and techniques without the pressure of finished pieces. Fired clay can last for thousands of years, and the materials and firing process have an environmental impact. Our environmentally conscious approach guides how we teach, make, and fire work in the studio.
